In addition to our caring staff and our amazing campus, Wheeler Summer’s activities and programs are another reason for a summer filled with happy campers. Here are a few of the highlights that make our summer experiences so memorable.
Wheeler Summer’s swim instruction is delivered by our aquatics partner – Pods Swimming. Pods Swimming believes in upholding the highest professional standards for instruction in swimming and aquatic safety. We do this by being active in the nation’s top swimming associations and by keeping our staff trained, certified, and current in best practices and safety.
The ultimate goal of Pods Swimming is for children to be safe in the water, to love the water, and to enjoy the sport of swimming for a lifetime. We work with each child individually to provide the best possible learning environment to reach his, her, or their highest potential. Small instructional groups help children learn water safety and build swim skills in a safe, supervised, and positive setting. In addition to daily swim lessons, all Traditional campers may choose free swim. All specialty campers will receive a modified swim lesson.
Sports & Games
Sweating and smiling is the goal for our sports & games activities. Wheeler campers get to enjoy the great outdoors on our beautiful campus, and they stay actively engaged in fun activities that help develop motor skills, learn to play as a team, build confidence, and have fun! Traditional camp games and physical educational activities are a key part of every camp day, as well as many popular sports.
Seeds, Sustainability, and Service
This program is a hands-on exploration and learning in the Wheeler Farm garden, from seed to table – including garden preparation, planting, maintenance and harvesting, as well as composting and watering. Simultaneously, and additionally, the program explores the concepts of service and sustainability, in developmentally appropriate ways for the range of camper groups. Art projects are integrated during most weeks to enhance the learning experiences for all campers.
Arts,Crafts, and Projects
Summer is a perfect time to express yourself in new creative ways, and our outdoor setting offers a range of media to explore for all our campers. Age appropriate arts & crafts and projects will engage and inspire our young artists.
Wheeler Summer’s adventure program is based on a experiential education philosophy, providing rewarding experiences that encourage campers to challenge themselves, take calculated risks, and build leadership skills. Daily camp activities include natural science, the ropes course, leadership activities, archery, and outdoor skills. Our ropes courses, includes high ropes and low ropes, supervised by trained educators who work on these courses year-round.
Here’s a list of just a few of the activities we’ve offered to campers in previous years. Fun activities that help build confidence and give campers an opportunity to make strong frienships.
