Program Highlights

In addition to our caring staff, beautiful 120-acre campus, and recently upgraded facilities, Wheeler Summer’s schedule of activities and programs are another reason for a summer filled with happy campers. Here are a few of the highlights that make our summer experiences so memorable.

Sports & Games

Sweating and smiling is the goal of our sports & games activities. Wheeler campers will enjoy the great outdoors on our beautiful campus, while staying actively engaged in fun activities that help develop motor skills, learn to play as a team, build confidence, and have fun! Traditional camp games and physical education activities are a key part of every camp day, as well as many popular sports.

Nature and Garden

Hands-on exploration and learning in the Wheeler Farm garden, from seed to table – including garden preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvesting, as well as composting and watering. Simultaneously, and additionally, the program explores the concepts of service and sustainability in developmentally appropriate ways for the range of camper groups. Art projects are integrated during most weeks to enhance the learning experiences for all campers.

Arts & Crafts

Summer is a perfect time to express yourself in new creative ways. Our outdoor setting offers a range of media to explore for all of our campers. Age-appropriate arts & crafts activities and projects will inspire our young artists and engage the creative side of all campers.

Adventure

Wheeler Summer’s adventure program is based on experiential education philosophy, providing rewarding experiences that encourage campers to challenge themselves, take calculated risks, and build leadership skills. Daily camp activities include natural science, the ropes course, leadership activities, archery, and outdoor skills. Our ropes course includes a series of over 10 high ropes and low ropes, supervised by trained educators who work on these courses year-round.

“I want to thank you for the most amazing first camp experience for our son. He had a blast! I was so impressed with how well organized drop off and pick up was at the wheeler campus. All the staff was excellent and really cared about the kids. The ease, bus, swimming and hot lunch were some of our favorites. I will definitely be signing our son up for more weeks next year!”
